The Rural Municipality of La Broquerie is one of the fastest growing rural municipalities in Manitoba. La Broquerie is Located just 12 kilometres from the City of Steinbach, and only 70 kilometres southeast from Manitoba's capital city, Winnipeg. The Rural Municipality of La Broquerie is a prominent producer of pork, beef and poultry. With a population of approximately 550 residents, La Broquerie is the biggest urban centre in the municipality, with the small community of Marchand being another significant community in the R.M.
History
The year 1877 saw the first settlers to the region. Upon arrival, these settlers found the area rich in many resources and economic potentials. Many of the first settlers in La Broquerie were of French-Canadian descent. The Municipality is very proud of its French Canadian origins and traditions.
La Broquerie has an immensely strong and diversified economy. The municipality boasts a diversified mix of agricultural, forestry, livestock operations, and tourist industry. La Broquerie boasts being one of Manitoba's largest dairy farm centres with 36 dairy farms in its borders. The municipality also boasts 26 pork large producers, 26 beef producers, and seven poultry producers. La Broquerie has also profited from the forest industry since its is so close to the forests of southeastern Manitoba. Diversification in the municipality is evident, with a bottled water plant taking advantage of the municipality's clean source of groundwater.
