The Rural Municipality (R.M.) of Winchester is located in the southwest corner of the province, 100 kilometres south of Brandon, and 3 hours southwest of the capital city, Winnipeg. The municipality surrounds the incorporated Town of Deloraine, a major local centre. The area is becoming very popular with people looking to get away from the big city life to a more relaxed, attractive rural setting. Winchester is a combination of flat agricultural land to the north, and gently rolling hills and forested areas to the south. The three lakes are connected, offering many kilometres of lakeshore for sightseeing and boating adventures. The lake is also a favourite of local anglers and visiting sportsmen alike. The lake system also provides many places to swim or just relax along sprawling shores. In the winter months, the lakes are covered with ice fishers, snowmobiles, and cross-country skiers enjoying the outside air. The nearby forested areas and small pothole marshes provide home and shelter to many birds and big game species. The area is a stopover for migrating waterfowl and attracts hunters from as far away as the southern states.
