The Rural Municipality of Strathcona is situated in southwestern Manitoba. Just southwest of the City of Brandon, the municipality is bordered on the south by picturesque Pelican Lake. The municipality is easily accessible by Provincial Trunk Highways 18 and 23, and Provincial Roads 253 and 458. The communities of Hilton and Belmont are the major centres in Strathcona.

A major economic boost to the region is the north shore of Pelican Lake. As a popular tourist area, the lake boasts approximately 700 cottages with approximately half of them in Strathcona. Recently, developers have opened up resorts along Pelican Lake. Each summer sees more cottages being built along the Lake. In the 1950's, the municipality purchased "Y-point beach" from the YMCA in Brandon and renamed it "Strathcona Memorial Park". The park boasts approximately 70 cottages, a store, change room facilities, and full camping ground.
