Economic BaseThe economy of Strathcona is quite diversified and has many prominent employers. Wawanesa Belmont Transfer, a trucking company based in Belmont, employs approximately 15 local residents. Verhelst Green Houses employs roughly 10 employees. The Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Strathcona employs approximately 12 employees in various positions. The community of Belmont is mostly an agricultural and tourist based community. With modern conveniences and utilities, Belmont also has a wide variety of local businesses and easily accessible 911 services.
A major economic boost to the region is the north shore of Pelican Lake. As a popular tourist area, the lake boasts approximately 700 cottages with approximately half of them in Strathcona. The tourist industry has been very beneficial to the businesses of Belmont and Ninette, as well as, an important source of tax revenue for the municipality. Recently, developers have opened up resorts along Pelican Lake. Each summer sees more cottages being built along the Lake. In the 1950's, the municipality purchased "Y-point beach" from the YMCA in Brandon and renamed it "Strathcona Memorial Park". The park boasts approximately 70 cottages, a store, change room facilities, and full camping ground.
