The Rural Municipality of Pipestone is located in scenic southwestern Manitoba. The municipality includes the communities of Reston, Pipestone, Cromer, and Sinclair. Sharing its western border with the Province of Saskatchewan, Pipestone is a picturesque municipality. Pipestone Valley, with its numerous trees and natural habitat surrounds Pipestone's communities. Pipestone Creek runs through the municipality and just adds to the natural beauty of the municipality.
Pipestone's communities are easily accessible by Provincial Trunk Highway 2 going west from Winnipeg, and also by Provincial Trunk Highway 83. The communities of Pipestone and Reston are both directly located on Highway 2. Reston is the largest unincorporated village in Pipestone. Boasting a population of approximately 600, Reston provides many services to its surrounding communities.
History
The history of Pipestone dates back as early as the late 1800's. The R.M. of Pipestone's municipal office today, is still the same office that was purchased in 1917.
