Geography

The Rural Municipality of Woodworth is located in southwestern Manitoba, and is only 45 minutes west of Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon. Woodworth is ideally located close to the towns of Virden, Rivers, and the villages of Hamiota and Oak Lake. This connection of urban areas and numerous surrounding municipalities creates a strong trade area in excess of 12,000 people! Woodworth is located three hours from both Winnipeg and Regina, giving it an excellent location for major Canadian markets. For those with a passion for wilderness and adventure, Woodworth is also just 45 minutes south of Manitoba's Riding Mountain National Park.

The Community of Kenton is Woodworth's largest community, with Harding and Lenore the other significant communities in Woodworth.


Economic Base

The economic picture in Woodworth is excellent. The municipality has recently attracted several new industries, as a result the community's aggressive approach and support for potential investors.

The council of the R.M. of Woodworth has taken the leading role of Manitoba's municipalities by recently developing a state of the art regional waste management and recycling facility.

Agriculture is a strong element in Woodworth's economy. Both traditional and non-traditional agriculture is present in the municipality, allowing for a healthy diversification in the industry. Both grain and livestock farming are prevalent in Woodworth. Wheat, canola, barley, oats, peas and lentils make up the traditional crops, while the rich soil in the area also accommodates several bedding plant operations such as strawberry farms. Cattle, hog, PMU, bison, elk and bee keeping operations also can be found within Woodworth's diverse farming culture.


Major Attractions

While in the municipality make sure to visit Kenworth Dam. Located at the east end of the community of Kenton, the dam provides an excellent recreation area with nature walks, a campground, a beach, and good pickerel and northern pike fishing. Its' little wonder why Kenton proudly boasts itself as being "The Best Little Town by a Dam Site!"


Facilities - Recreation, Parks, Culture

Residents of Woodworth are well served by programs and activities coordinated by both the Mid West Recreational District (based in Hamiota), and the Prairie West Recreation District in Virden. In addition, the Mid West Arts Council and the Virden Arts Council provide numerous opportunities for area residents with events, courses and general activities. A plethora of service clubs also helps create a lively social, cultural and recreational life in Woodworth's communities.
