The Rural Municipality of Whitehead is located in western Manitoba, approximately 25 kilometres west of Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon. Located conveniently along the Trans Canada Highway, the municipality is also just 75 kilometres north of the U.S.A. border crossing at Boissevain. Provincial Roads 250, 349, and 455 service the municipality. Provincial Trunk Highway 21 forms the western border of the municipality, and separates Whitehead from the municipalities of Sifton and Woodworth. Whitehead is serviced by the CP and CNR main lines. Alexander, Kemnay, and Beresford are the major communities in the municipality.
Economic Base
Agriculture is a strong element in Whitehead's economy. The municipality of approximately 1535 residents boasts two grain dealers, two grain elevators, two seed plants and two fertilizer dealers.
The Community of Alexander, with a population of 250 residents, is one of the major centres in Whitehead. The community boasts three community halls, a school, a licensed restaurant and convenience store, and a barber/hair salon. For a wider range of services, residents must travel to the nearby City of Brandon.
Located conveniently along the Trans Canada Highway and major rail lines, Whitehead has a direct link to agricultural markets and services in both Brandon and other western municipalities in Manitoba, as well as, Saskatchewan.
