Geography

The Rural Municipality of North Cypress is located in south Central Manitoba and includes the communities of Carberry, Brookdale, Wellwood and Edrans. Each of North Cypress' communities offers a relaxed enjoyable lifestyle, while being only minutes away from the large City of Brandon. Located on the rich prairies of Manitoba, the municipality has excellent connections to the Trans Canada Highway (which runs through North Cypress) and Provincial Trunk Highway 5 and Provincial Road 351, which both service the municipality, as well. The Town of Carberry is the centre of the trade region and is nestled in the Carberry Sandhills.

Economic Base

With its excellent location along the Trans Canada Highway, and access to other roads and rail lines, the economy in North Cypress is very healthy. A strong agricultural background, helps North Cypress boast some very prominent employers. Midwest Food Products Inc. employs approximately 500 local residents and specializes in potato processing, of which, its facilities are considered world class. ADM Agri Industries is another prominent employer, and is a subsidiary of a multi-national company that specializes in processing of agricultural products such as canola and flax. The municipality also boasts the Manitoba Crop Diversification Centre (MCDC), which evaluates and demonstrates the economic potential of specialty, niche and other types of crops. The centre also undertakes field demonstrations, publication of bulletins and info sheets, and hosts seminars and courses.

With a very affordable municipal tax, excellent schools and school services, and a low business tax rate, the municipality will be irresistible for new families and businesses alike. The municipality also boasts its own hospital, personal care home, health centre, three schools, fire, ambulance and RCMP detachment.

Major Attractions

Do not miss stopping off for a round of golf at the beautiful Carberry Sandhills Golf and Country Club. One of the most beautiful (and challenging) golf courses in Manitoba, this 9-hole course offers a spectacular view of the surrounding landscape, and features lush irrigated fairways.

The nearby Sprucewoods Provincial Park provides an excellent window on nature in south Central Manitoba. The park boasts excellent hiking, camping, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling opportunities.

Facilities - Recreation, Parks, Culture

No matter what time of year or the season, our area offers a wealth of recreational activities. The Town of Carberry and surrounding area is home to a variety of interesting and exciting places to visit. From museums rich in history, to arts, crafts and theatre, there is a never-ending supply of events, attractions and activities to keep the community and visitors alike coming back all year long. Biking, tennis, golf, baseball, hockey, curling, hunting and hiking are just a number of the sports that can be undertaken in North Cypress, while the Carberry Plains Arts Council, Quilter's Guild, and Exit Stage Left Theatre Group, help maintain the strong artistic culture in North Cypress.
