Nestled on the edge of the Little Saskatchewan Valley and northwest of the City of Brandon, the Rural Municipality of Daly is located in fertile western Manitoba. The Town of Rivers is the major centre in the municipality. The R.M. of Daly surrounds Rivers and covers 553.4 square kilometres. The municipality boasts a healthy population of approximately 895. The majority of soils in the municipality are clay and sand loam. This makes Daly suitable for many types of agricultural activities.
Economic Base
Agriculture forms Daly's economic backbone. Mixed grain, hog farming and cattle ranching are extensive throughout the municipality. These industries have proven vital in supporting the local rural economy. Daly has, however, seen new industrial development in the municipality. Recent expansion of the local existing industrial base will attract many agriculturally based companies into the region.
Hangar Farms Inc., a swine farrowing operation located 5 kilometers southwest of Rivers, is one of the municipality's most prominent employers. Livestock related operations in Daly have increased significantly, to meet the needs of the new Maple Leaf Meats Ltd. hog processing plant in Brandon.
Considered one of Brandon's premiere bedroom communities, the Town of Rivers and surrounding municipality of Daly offers residents and new families many services. With a population of approximately 1,117, Rivers offers all the amenities such as a K-6 school, high school, 16-bed hospital, and fire and police protection. The proximity of Rivers to the City of Brandon and to major highways and rail lines makes Daly accessible to many eastern and western markets.
