Geography

The Town of Rapid City is located in the Westman Region of Manitoba, just west of Provincial Trunk Highway 10 on PTH 24. The community is only 25 kilometres north of Brandon, the region's largest city, and 225 kilometres west of Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital.

Economic Base

The rolling hills around Rapid City are known as some of the finest farmland in the province. The vast fields produce crops of exceptional quality including wheat, barley, oats, canola, and flax. The wooded valleys and washes in the area suit themselves well to cattle production. A number of farms in the area are of the mixed grain and livestock type, or specialize specifically in ranching purebred animals or animals for market. Rapid City is close enough to Brandon to commute daily, and lower development costs, and a rural atmosphere make the community attractive to business people working in the city. The town is also developing a thriving tourist industry, based on the many features the town has to offer.

Major Attractions

Rapid City has many recreational facilities to offer its residents and visitors. Hockey and curling rinks provide a venue for organized winter sport leagues, for children and adults.

The area also has several kilometres of snowmobile trails, and there are cross-country ski trails on the river, as well. The river is also an excellent location to try ice fishing on a winter's afternoon.

During the summer, a soccer field and numerous baseball diamonds are only steps from most resident's houses in town, are busy with sporting activities.

A nine-hole golf course plays along the banks of the Little Saskatchewan River, complete with a licensed clubhouse for a post game refreshment or snack. The river is great for fishing and boating in the summer. There is a beach with washroom and shower facilities, and a campground nearby. The museum in town houses a working antique print shop for visitors to tour. An annual June agricultural fair and the Annual Rodeo are two events anticipated by residents, young and old.
