The Village of St.Lazare is located in the western region of Manitoba, along Provincial Trunk Highway 41. The village is approximately 162 kilometres northwest of Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon. St.Lazare lies close to the Saskatchewan border, and sits along the banks of the scenic Assiniboine River.
History
St.Lazare was incorporated as a village in 1950. The name St.Lazare comes from the biblical figure of Lazarus, who was "raised from the dead".
Economic Base
The Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Mine is one of the area's larger employers, employing approximately 27 of the village's residents. The Ecole St.Lazare (St.Lazare School) is also a large employer, employing 20 residents in the community. Fouillard's Furniture and Fouillard's Carpets employ approximately 10 residents in each company. Also, Fouillard's Steel has a presence in the area, employing approximately 10 residents.
St Lazare has a range of personal services such as a Credit Union, an insurance agent, and a clothing and gift/hobby shop. The village also has three professional building and general contractors.
Major Attractions
St.Lazare has a very strong community life, evident by its many clubs and organizations. Clubs such as the St.Lazare Seniors, Ladies Auxiliary, St.Lazare Metis, Communities in Bloom, and Committee Culturel sustain a very active community.The Fort Ellice Site (8 kilometres from St.Lazare) provides for a nice drive out of the village.

The village also provides hunting, fishing, and canoeing along the river. For the active, St.Lazare boasts over 80 kilometres of summer hiking and bicycling paths, while winter has over 161 kilometres of snowmobile trails in place for the avid adventurer.
Not to miss in St.Lazare is the "Ride for Hope" at the old Fort Ellice site in July, while Pioneer Days on August long weekend provides for a nice family outing and picnic. The Winter Carnival in March features sporting events, and is a definite must see.
