The Rural Municipality of Minto is serenely situated between Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon, and the Riding Mountains National Park. The municipality is 144 square miles. Minto is surrounded by gently rolling hills and picturesque farmlands. The municipality is also home to a wide variety of wildlife that is native to the Parkland region. Easily accessible by the Yellowhead Trail, and Provincial Trunk Highway 10, the communities of Ameer, Bethany, Largs and Clanwilliam are the significant communities in Minto. The Town of Minnedosa, found at the heart of the municipality, is largest centre in Minto, and is a service centre for the surrounding farming communities.
History
An ammendment to the "The Municipal Boundaries Act" in 1902 formed the present boundary of the Rural Municipality of Minto. The municipality was officially established on January 1st, 1903.
Economic Base
Minto's economy revolves around agriculture. The majority of the residents are either employed directly in agriculture or in agri businesses and services. Minnedosa is a strong service centre for the surrounding communities, and provides a wide range of basic services that are found in any other town. Tourism is increasingly becoming important in Minto. The Annual "Classic Rock Weekend" in the summer draws thousands of visitors to the hills of Minto and Minnedosa. This large event helps boost the local economies, and introduces visitors to the immense potential found in Minto.
