The Rural Municipality of Shellmouth-Boulton is located in western Manitoba and sits adjacent to the Saskatchewan Border. The municipality is intersected by part of Riding Mountain National Park and by the Asessippi Provincial Park which runs through it. The scenic Lake of the Prairies runs through the western section of the municipality.
Shellmouth-Boulton is easily accessible by Provincial Trunk Highway 83, which runs through the municipality, and by Provincial Roads 482, 366 and 592. Provincial Road 264 forms part of Shellmouth-Boulton's southern boundary.
Inglis and Dropmore are the major communities in the municipality. Shellmouth-Boulton is part of the Pelly Trail Development Committee.
History
The R.M. of Shellmouth-Boulton was formed on January 1st,1999 by the amalgamation of the R.M's of Shellmouth (incorporated in 1907) and Boulton (incorporated in 1884). Immigrant settlers in the area originated from Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Russia, England, Scotland and Ireland.
Economic Base
Farming is the economic backbone of the municipality. Livestock operations form a major part of farming in the RM. Cattle, horses, sheep, hogs, bison and elk are the major livestock farmed. Pure bred breeding includes Aberdeen Angus, Blonde D'Aquitane, Charolais, Herefords, Salers and Simmental breeds. Grain farming in the municipality includes grain cereals, oil seeds, forage and also specialty crops. Agri-businesses are also strong in Shellmouth-Boulton.
Tourism has become an increasing economic draw in Shellmouth-Boulton. The new Asessippi Ski Resort has become a popular haven for excellent down hill skiing. The resort has attracted considerable national attention as a state of the art down hill skiing facility. The Inglis Historic Elevators also promise to be a large economic draw for the municipality. The Asessippi Provincial Park and Lake of the Prairies continue to draw campers and fishers to it's well stocked lake.
Major Attractions
The Inglis Heritage grain elevators are a spectacular site on the prairies for visitors travelling through the region. This federal historic site boasts 5 heritage grain elevators that help symbolize the strong farming heritage of Inglis. The elevators are being restored to their original condition and will be used as a restaurant, interpretive center, replica working grain elevator and other functions.
The Trans Canada trail, passing through the community, offers an excellent path for hiking, skiing and cycling through Shellmouth-Boulton's beautiful landscape.
Asessippi calls all skiing buffs to their runs! The Asessippi Ski Resort features 21 downhill ski/board runs that range from beginner to expert. With quad & triple chair lifts, the park features night skiing, and over 800 sets of ski rentals. Asessippi also supports snowboarding and tubing. The park also features a neighborhood pub and licensed deck with barbecue area. Don't miss western Canada's best new attraction!

The Asessippi Ski Area & Winter Park was recently given the distinction of "Canada's Best New Attraction" by Attractions Canada.
The Inglis elevators are the last remaining set of original prairie elevators still standing in Western Canada!
