The beautiful Rural Municipality of Ste. Rose is situated in the Parkland Region of Manitoba. Ste.Rose is located approximately 300 kilometres from Winnipeg, Manitoba's capitol city. Ste. Rose is located to the south of Dauphin Lake and has the Lake Manitoba Narrows to its east. The Riding Mountain National Park just west of Ste.Rose adds to the natural scenery of the region. Characterized by gently rolling landscapes and wooded areas, the area surrounding Ste.Rose truly has a rustic natural beauty. Ste.Rose is easily accessible by Provincial Trunk Highway 5, which runs through the municipality. Provincial Roads 360 and 276 also access the municipality. The progressive Village of Ste. Rose du Lac has just over 1000 people, and is the major centre in the municipality. The community of Laurier is the other significant centre in Ste. Rose du Lac.
History
The Rural Municipality of Ste.Rose was officially incorporated in 1902. Many of the first settlers in the region were from Eastern Canada, of French Canadian origin. These settlers quickly settled the land around Ste.Rose and set up strong roots in its communities. With a rich French Canadian heritage, Ste.Rose has many residents who are fluent in both French and English.
Economic Base
The cattle industry is the strong economic base in Ste. Rose. With one of the largest feeder cattle centres in Manitoba, cattle ranching is a major source of income for many local residents. Declared the "Cattle Capital of Manitoba", the Municipality of Ste. Rose produces almost ten percent of the province's beef cattle! Weekly cattle auctions in the municipality attract domestic and international buyers.
Medical and health services have become a growing industry for the municipality and town of the same name. The hospital in Ste. Rose du Lac is the third largest in the Parkland Region! The health centre houses a 68-bed hospital and 65-bed personal care home. The health centre is a prominent employer in Ste. Rose, employing dozens of local residents. Ste. Rose du Lac also has an ambulance service, RCMP detachment, seniors' homes and a Provincial Health Unit office.
The Town of Ste. Rose du Lac is fast becoming an integral regional service centre for the surrounding agricultural communities and local Aboriginal and Metis communities. The town boasts all the amenities and services found in other large urban centres, including grocery and clothing stores, banks, Credit Unions and restaurants. The Municipality and Town of Ste. Rose du Lac encompasses a trading area of nearly 5000 people, and an overall trading area of 16,000 within a 50 kilometre radius of the town.
Major Attractions
Riding Mountain National Park, Clear Lake, Lake Dauphin, Waterhen Lake, the Lake Manitoba Narrows, Manipogo Beach, Rainbow Beach and nearby Ochre Beach provide all campers, beach goers and nature lovers ample opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Parkland. The nearby Mount Agassiz Downhill Ski facility, located thirty minutes from the Town of Ste.Rose du Lac, offers all skiers well groomed trails and promises a fun time. Ste.Rose du Lac also boasts a curling rink, skating rink, community centre, baseball diamonds and a town park.

Events abound in Ste.Rose! The annual Hoof 'N' Holler Days festivities are a "hoof'in" great time for everyone! Hosted annually on the long weekend in October, this event features cattle sales, and indoor rodeo, pancake breakfast, beef barbeque, ranchers' banquet, several dances, a cowgirl contest, parade, and numerous children's activities.
