Geography

The Rural Municipality of Grandview is located in Manitoba's Parkland Region, and is bordered on the south by Riding Mountain National Park, and on the north by Duck Mountain Provincial Park. A scenic tour of the R.M. takes you through hills, valleys and fertile farmland that is rich in scenery and heritage.

History

In 1884 Glenyon Campbell rode his pony north over the Riding Mountains and discovered a fertile valley. He was so impressed, he returned and traded his pony for a log cabin owned by Gilbert Ross and his wife, becoming the first homesteader in the place known as "Gilbert Plains". The area has seen many changes since that time, with the Town of Grandview now standing as its major service centre.

Economic Base

The R.M.'s terrain varies from prairie to boreal forest and lakeland, forming a unique environment that accommodates a rich agricultural sector and numerous outdoor pursuits that include: cereal grains, oil seed crops, a cattle industry, an abundance of wildlife, fishing, and hunting, and other recreational activities.
