Geography

The Rural Municipality of Lawrence is located in the northern portion of western Manitoba. The municipality sits snugly against the southern shores of Lake Manitoba, and the northern shores of Lake Dauphin.

Lawrence is located along Provincial Road 276, which runs right through the municipality from north to south. The municipality is approximately 213 kilometres northeast of Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon. Provincial Roads 364 and 481 also service the municipality. The community of Rorketon is the largest centre in Lawrence. The municipality was incorporated in 1914.


Economic Base

Lawrence has a strong service industry. The municipality's largest employer is Rorketon School, which employs approximately 18 local residents. The R.M. of Lawrence and the Rorketon & District Credit Union are other prominent employers in the municipality, employing approximately 10 residents each. With a population of approximately 114, Rorekton is the service centre for the surrounding communities. Rorketon offers basic necessities such as a grocery store, licensed restaurant, Credit Union, and auto service station. For a fuller complement of services, residents must travel to larger urban centres.


Major Attractions

The beautiful Manipogo Beach and Provincial Park located near the municipality, offers camping and fishing along Manitoba's second largest lake, Lake Manitoba. Far distant from the more popular and used beaches on Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg, Manipogo Beach is a nice and serene spot to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding region.


Facilities - Recreation, Parks, Culture

Residents of Lawrence are busy with many festivals and celebrations held throughout the year.

The Family Fun Day in March, the Fireman's Ball and Craft Fair in November, and the various curling bonspiels throughout the year are just a few examples of the fun activities offered in Lawrence.

The residents of Lawrence are also kept busy by a variety of groups and organizations. The Rorketon Rusalka Youth Dance Group and the Rorketon Creative Seniors, are two of the active groups in the municipality. The friendly people of Lawrence invite you to visit their beautiful municipality!
