Geography

"A Place for All Seasons, A Place for All Reasons"

Take a drive up Provincial Trunk Highway 6 and visit the Ashern area. Whether you are planning to relocate, stay for the day, vacationing, or just passing through, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy.

The R.M. of Siglunes offers spectacular beaches and campgrounds, summer and winter fishing, excellent snowmobile trails - loads of recreational activities and great natural surroundings that are a must see. This is an excellent vacation spot and a great place to live!

To the northwest of the R.M. lies the Lake Manitoba Narrows, birthplace of our province's name. The Cree called this area Manitobau, meaning "Narrows of the Great Spirit". Today this region is prime angler country with Master Angler Awards given here for perch, freshwater drum, northern pike, walleye and sauger.

History

The Rural Municipality of Siglunes was incorporated in 1917. The Village of Ashern was named after A.S. Hern, an official of the firm that constructed the railway that served the Western Interlake.

The Ashern Museum is open during the summer months and contains several buildings which house pioneer displays and artifacts.

Facilities - Recreation, Parks, Culture

The local beaches boast fine sand and clear, clean water. Oak Bay Lodge, Lake Manitoba Narrows Lodge and Silver Bay are popular places for local cottage owners and seasonal campers.
