The non-treaty community of Brochet is adjacent to the reserve community of Brochet, located on the Barren lands Indian Reserve, near the north end of Reindeer Lake.
Brochet is approximately 121 km by air north of Lynn Lake and the western edge of the province. Although internal roads exist, there are only winter road or air links to the rest of the province. Some water transportation occurs from Co-op Point just inside Saskatchewan.
The community of Brochet is represented by a mayor and council under The Northern Affairs Act.

Emergency Services
Fire Fire fighting capability is based on a fast-response vehicle fully equipped. There is also a water trailer with forestry-style portable pump and hoses. The trailer is pulled by a tractor.
Police Police response is from the Lynn Lake detachment, phone 356-2494, on a fly-in basis. RCMP have overnight accommodation in the community. There is also a community constable for immediate response.
Medical Medical response is from the federal nursing station with six beds, staffed by three nurses. The nearest hospital is Lynn Lake and requires air transportation services.

Airstrip Northern Manitoba Airports operate a 3,000'x90' gravel remote-controlled lighted airstrip about half a mile from the community. Office is located in Winnipeg, phone 945-3421.
Hydro Provided by Manitoba Hydro as enhanced diesel electric power. Service capacity is limited to 60A per household. Residential rate is based on zone 3 levels::

Economic Overview
Economic activity in the Brochet area is based on commercial fishing and trapping. The community is located in the Brochet RTL zone. Fishermen use the Kinisao fish station in the summer and the Lynn Lake fish station in the winter to deliver their fish.
Area and northern lodges employ local residents as guides.
